Celebrating our mathematical thinking

I'm from patterns

  • Song based on comments by elementary school teacher candidates exploring math pattern problems.

I am from anywhere
I'm from everywhere
I am in places that
You may never find

I can grow and expand
At the drop of a hat
I am wacky and wild
And crazy as a bat

I make formulas and graphs
That kind of scare me
And make me have fun
Like I've never seen

Linear is perimeter
Quadratic is area
Exponential is the growth
Of tiny bacteria

So many patterns
Before my eyes
So many to discover
So very little time

I'm from patterns
Yes I'm from patterns
I'm from patterns
And so are you

With the math help
Of Dr Lindi Wahl
I've discovered patterns
With the baluchitherium

In tiny growing cells
And busy, busy bees
A pattern I can see
As easy as 1, 2, 3

Doubling bunnies
Arranging tables and chairs
Planting magic seeds
And watching them grow

From fictional stories
To funny videos
We're becoming
Mathematical theos

Thanks to all of you
In this summer class
I now see math
In a whole new way!

I'm from patterns
Yes I'm from patterns
I'm from patterns
And so are you
