Math + Coding Community Events

fieldslogo117x149trans-oldWith funding from the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences we are offering support for organizing student-led math + coding community events.

Students love to share their learning! Organize a community event where students share their math + coding adventures and we will offer the following support:

All you have to do is send us the following for our Math + Code ‘Zine:

  • A brief summary of the experience
  • A couple of pictures of the event

Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board – CODE Project

Over the past school year, HPCDSB has partnered with Dr. George Gadanidis from Western University to implement student code workshops and professional development for teachers. We are interested in exploring how coding can help model mathematical relationships and how concepts can be performed beyond traditional methods. This year, each school will be supported in creating a code club and as a system, we will be hosting two community nights for students to showcase their coding masterpieces. Paul D’Hondt, Learning Coordinator, believes “this initiative is a great way to extend mathematical learning beyond the textbook while at the same time opening endless opportunities for students to explore “Math in Action” on a fun, interactive platform.” Learning Coordinator Sean McDade is excited because “of the constant positive feedback from both staff and students on this new and innovative way to exploring mathematical ideas that has significant real-world applications in the 21st century.” Some of our schools have already hosted evening events for students and parents to learn code and to share their ideas and projects and more are scheduled for the fall!
