Celebrating our mathematical thinking

I Saw a Zebra in Math Class

Dad, guess what I saw in math today.
What did you see, Jimmy?
A zebra!
And a skyscraper, and a caterpillar too!
We did arrays for 12.
1 and 12 and 12 by 1
2 and 6 and 6 by 2
3 and 4 and 4 by 3
And we used our imagination.
Do you want to see my drawings?

It’s a bug that’s long and slimy
12 chimes in 1 row of 12
A caterpillar with 12 legs
A flower that smells good
A shark fish, watch out!
A dinosaur that’s hungry
A bunch of children, all happy
A chocolate bar with caramel inside
A table with 12 plates
A guinea pig that loves lettuce
A flower that smells good
A pencil that’s really sharp
A hotel with 12 windows
A coat rack with coats on it
A road lamp that lights the way

Dad, guess what I saw in math today.
What did you see, Jimmy?
A zebra!
And a skyscraper, and a caterpillar too!
Not on a field trip.
But in math class.
